My Solar Project

After many hours of research I finally decided to have a 10Kw photovoltaic (PV) solar array installed for my home. If you are in Pennsylvania, the state and federal incentives are very generous and almost impossible to ignore if you have ever even considered a project such as this. Here is a very good article that explains the benefits of a system like this:

With the rate caps coming off next year, most analysts are predicting double digit rate increases for 2011.

I started my journey by speaking with Joe Morinville, owner of Energy Independent Solutions. He is not a pushy salesman type that calls you constantly or uses high pressure sales tactics. We actually played phone tag for awhile before actually getting to talk about the project.
Joe convinced me that PV is a proven technology that holds a lot of promise for the future in PA.
Not only do these systems generate electricity for your home but they generate Solar
Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) that can be sold back to the power company through a broker. PA SRECs have been fluctuating between $250 and $300 a piece and are widely expected to rise in price. A 10Kw system will generate about 12 SRECs a year and save about $1200 a year in electricity costs. Based on these factors, I am expecting to pay off the system in 3 - 5 years.
Next: Construction begins
